Hooray!!!

Joan and I are thrilled to be able to tell you that our book, Keep Working, Girlfriend: Navigating the workplace with an autoimmune disease, is ready for Pre Order. Read about it on our blog page or go directly to the publisher where you can submit a pre order.

Are you wondering, what’s the big deal? I mean, the book isn’t out yet or anything. But we’re delighted to finally, after several years, get to this stage.

We started talking about this 2.5 years ago and started drafting the content January ‘06. We’d decided to “self publish” for at least two reasons: so we could get this book out to you as soon as possible — and we were afraid that a publisher would mess with our message.

But then, after we were set to publish it on our own, Demos Medical Publishing, heard about it and convinced us to let them publish it. Now, if you know anything about this world, unpublished, novice writers don’t usually get asked by a publisher to publish their book.

We were flattered — and frankly, I for one, was happy to get the help.? For? us - 2, not quite “healthy” chicks, it’s a lot of work to write, edit and publish a book and run our own businesses!

I’ve also gotten very frustrated with how long this takes!!? If we’d self published, it would have been “out” in 4 -6 weeks.? This will be 8 -10 months!
But, we’re lucky to be working with wonderful people. They’ve been terrific about keeping the message, content and tone and have made great suggestions that only improve it. But publishing is not something that happens quickly.

I’d envisioned something fun and upbeat for the cover but couldn’t get beyond to concrete ideas. They came up with the cover and I love it! Do you? I’d love to hear from you.
