Working when you’re in pain
I was interviewed for the blog, “How to cope with pain” – read my top 6 reasons for working. I, of course, used it as a chance to talk about why work is good for your health.
Most of my clients live in some type of physical pain and many find it difficult to concentrate and do a good job when the pain is there. I’ve written about hope – particularly in the last chapter of our book – and how important it is in attitude.
But, when I had foot surgery recently, I was reminded of how pain can take over your whole being. My feet hurt on the best of days (neuropathic pain from multiple sclerosis) so I thought this wouldn’t be much of a change. But there’s always room for more. When I’m on the phone with clients, writing at my desk engrossed in ideas or just plain absorbed in anything other than my body, I forget the pain. And I once again, become more than a person with pain.Do you find that’s true? Or is it the opposite — does work increase your pain? Tell us your experience.
